Bringing Peace to the Conventions
On July 30th and in our July Newsletter we asked for your help so we could have a presence at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions this summer.
Your generous response allowed The Peace Alliance and the Colorado Campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace to hold a reception across from the Democratic Convention Center for members of the House
and Senate in Denver for the Democratic Convention. We have some photos for you here.
I Stand For Peace
Please Sign
the Petition.
We are very close to meeting our goal of 5000 signatures. Thank You!
Congress is a reactive body so let's come together to tell our
representatives in Washington that violence reduction and
prevention must be a top priority. Sign the petition and
let Congress know that you stand for peace.
Ask other peace and nonviolence organizations in your community if they will share the petition with their memberships. Ask your friends and family to sign and share it with your social
networking sites.
We will deliver the petition to Congress on
September
11, 2008.

Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones
Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) died on Wed. August
20th after suffering a brain aneurysm. Among her many accomplishments,
Rep. Tubbs Jones was also a cosponsor of HR-808, the bill to establish
a U.S. Department of Peace.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer has set up an
on-line guest book for the public to leave comments. If you wish to send
a card to her family or staff, mailing addresses for her offices can
be found here .
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends
and consituents at this time.
Participate in an historic citizen lobbying effort to create a U.S. Department of Peace. There is currently a bill before the U.S. House
of Representatives (HR 808). This landmark measure will augment our current problem-solving options, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the
problems of domestic and international conflict.
Domestically, the Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources to effectively reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse,
and various other forms of societal discord. Internationally, the Department will advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated ideas and
techniques regarding peace-creation among nations. Learn
